Nickeus Park Inclusive Playground

Inclusive Playground, Shelter and Restroom at Nickeus Park

Why an Inclusive Playground?

Access for All: Inclusive playgrounds remove barriers, allowing everyone, regardless of ability, to fully participate in play and recreation in a safe, supportive environment.

Physical & Emotional Development: They offer opportunities for exercise, coordination, and overall health, essential for individuals with disabilities.

Community & Connection: Inclusive spaces foster social connections, break down stereotypes, and promote a sense of belonging and acceptance.

Education & Empathy: They provide valuable opportunities to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and encourage empathy among children and adults alike.

Grant Information

JPRD has secured a $600,000 grant for this inclusive playground, restroom and shelter.  The grant is a dollar for dollar match, meaning we need help raising the remaining $600,000 to make this park a reality.

“Our son Gage was born with CHARGE Syndrome. His mobility, vision and hearing are all affected. Gage only was able to learn to walk and be mobile with a gate trainer style walker. A standard play ground did not accommodate his assistance devices. EVERY child should be able to have access to swings, slides and any additional playground equipment.“

“Our family is very excited about a renovated park in Jamestown that would have accessible equipment for people of all abilities and all ages.  15 years ago we asked for an accessible swing to be installed in the park for our son Noah who has autism and a visual impairment, and for others like him.  He enjoyed that swing until he out grew it.  For people like Noah, going to the park could be the best part of their whole day. To have new accessible equipment, a safe walkway,  level  playing surface and accessible bathrooms, would be a dream come true.  A space where all will feel welcome to play and explore would be a great asset to our community.“
