Current Projects and Initiatives

We’re always working to enhance our parks, facilities, and recreational programs.  See the parks and facilities below we are currently improving:

McElroy Park Field Renovations:

Phase One of this field renovation project is well underway.  As soon as ground temperatures rise, and frost recedes work will commence. Artificial turf has been laid in the infield for both of the feature fields with just the final touches of outfield sod, dugout roofing, and backstop netting remaining. The concession/restroom building, plaza, and landscaping will be completed in the Spring with the anticipation of playing ball in early Summer. When completed, phase one will include a dedicated parking lot, paved pathways, concession/restroom building, community plaza, and two feature fields.  Gould Field is a Babe Ruth sized field with artificial turf infield, sod outfield, and concrete dugouts.  The smaller sized feature field also has an artificial turf infield with sod outfield.  It will be used for Cal Ripken (12 and under) baseball and fast pitch softball.

Nickeus Park Playground:

A $623,000 matching grant from ND Park System Grant program has been awarded to JPRD for the renovation of Nickeus Park and the addition of an all-abilities playground! A volunteer committee is busy working to raise the remaining needed funds to match the grant and bring this dream to a reality for our community.  The current design includes a handicap accessible parking lot, paved pathways, new accessible restroom and shelter in addition to an amazing playground.  The playground will be surfaced with poured in place material and include play activities to serve everyone in the community providing a safe and healthy place for community members of all ages and abilities to stay active and improve their social skills.

Hillcrest Golf Couse:

Hillcrest Golf Course is undergoing a phased renovation of the Pro Shop, with the first phase focusing on the hospitality room. This newly renovated space will provide a versatile and welcoming setting for events of all kinds. This space will provide seating for 78 guests and include a convenient serving area.

The Bunker:

The Bunker has recently updated the audio and projection system to include a large projector mounted on the wall perfect for presentations. The Neirling Room will also be getting a fresh coat of paint and new flooring.

Horseshoe Courts:

The Horseshoe Courts in McElroy Park are getting an update with the removal of the dilapidated tool storage shack and renovations to the clubhouse.

Jack Brown Stadium:

In July of 2024 the field lights were rendered inoperable after a lightning strike.  Since that time grant funds have been secured to remove the 50+ year old system and upgrade to a state-of-the-art field lighting system. Installation of the new system began Tuesday March 11th and project completion is anticipated by April 15th.

Digital Updates:

We’ve made some big improvements to our website navigation to help you find information on programs, events, and activities more easily.  But that’s not all, we’re launching a JPRD app later this year.  This new app will be your one-stop-shop for everything parks and recreation, including event schedules, activity details, and an easier way to register for programs.
