Looking for fun activities in Jamestown? Jamestown Parks and Recreation offers a variety of year-round activities for all ages to enjoy! Whether you’re a local resident or just visiting, there’s something for everyone to explore.

 

From beautiful parks and trails to sports leagues, golf, swimming, and winter recreation, we provide opportunities to stay active, connect with the community, and make the most of every season. Check out the list below to discover all the great things to do in Jamestown!

Literacy Lane

A Literacy Lane is an outdoor reading experience that brings books to life along a walking path or trail. Pages from a children’s book are displayed sequentially, allowing families to enjoy the magic of storytelling while exploring the outdoors.

 

Jamestown is home to two Literacy Lanes, located at Solien-Denault Park and Meidinger Park. Books are changed regularly, offering fresh stories for visitors to enjoy. Businesses and organizations also have the opportunity to sponsor a book, helping to promote literacy and community engagement.

 

Take a stroll and experience the joy of reading in a whole new way!

Golf

Hillcrest Golf Course is a beautiful and challenging 18-hole course with a fleet of 25 golf carts, a full driving range, and a large practice green and chipping green. The 18 holes plays at 6,660 yards with a par of 72. The front nine is a par 35 with one par 5 and two par 3’s but has several challenging holes with water and sand hazards. The back nine is a par 37 and is a bit more of a challenge with rolling hills and three par 5’s.

The golfing season begins as early as April and runs as late into the fall as possible.The course is open 7 days a week.

Disc Golf Courses

Jamestown is home to two exciting disc golf courses for all skill levels!

Klaus Park Disc Golf Course
This 18-hole course features Innova Discatchers, cement tees, and a scenic layout along the James and Pipestem Rivers. While mostly flat, trees and water hazards add a fun challenge. Pro par: 57 | Amateur par: 64.

The Island Disc Golf Course
A 24-hole championship-level course designed to test every shot! Featuring cement tees, dual pin positions, elevation changes, and water hazards, it’s one of the toughest courses in the state.

Horseshoes

Looking for a fun and relaxing outdoor activity? McElroy Park’s Horseshoe Complex features 16 courts, open to all skill levels for casual or competitive play. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends!

Need equipment? Horseshoes are available to borrow from the Jamestown Parks and Recreation office at 1002 2nd Avenue SE.

Kayak Kiosk

A brand-new kayak rental kiosk is now available at Nickeus Park! Whether you’re looking for a fun paddle, a peaceful escape on the water, or a new way to explore the outdoors, this self-serve rental station makes it easy. Simply visit the kiosk, download the app, pay, and go! Rentals start at just $15 for the first two hours, making it an affordable and convenient way to enjoy the water. Community Bike Fleet

The Community Bike Fleet offers free bike rentals to help everyone enjoy the benefits of cycling with safe, reliable equipment. The fleet includes 30 hybrid bikes in both adult and youth sizes, plus an adult tricycle and helmets. Bikes are available for check-out at Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC), and while you must be 18 or older to make a reservation, riders of all ages are welcome. A photo ID is required for check-out. You can reserve individual bikes or the entire fleet for a group. Additionally, the enclosed trailer with bikes and a repair station is available for long-term rentals, making it perfect for group activities.

Mobile Literacy Learning Lab

The Mobile Literacy Learning Lab is a self-contained trailer that brings educational experiences to neighborhoods, parks, and events in Jamestown, ND. Offering pop-up play and learning opportunities for all ages, the lab features a rotating selection of books, toys, and games for everyone from infants to adults. Made possible through a partnership with Jamestown Parks and Recreation, Jamestown Public Schools, and Jamestown Knights of Columbus, it’s a fun way to engage the community in learning. Skating (Indoor and Outdoor)

The Winter Sports Building, located at 1009 7th St NE in Jamestown, offers public skating from October through March. Enjoy open skate on scheduled dates and times each week! Plus, JPRD provides outdoor skating rinks at McElroy Park, Leapaldt Park, and Meidinger Park during the winter months. Grab your skates and make the most of this winter season!

Sledding

Embrace the winter season with sledding at The Bunker! Bring your family and friends for a day of outdoor fun, then warm up in our cozy warming house. Whether you’re racing down the hill or warming up inside, The Bunker is the perfect winter destination.

Cross Country Skiing

Enjoy the winter beauty of Jamestown by exploring the cross-country ski trails at McElroy Park and Hillcrest Golf Course! These trails are groomed as weather permits, providing a perfect setting for both beginners and experienced skiers. You can rent cross-country skis at the McElroy Park warming house during the winter months.
